With summer approaching, the State is already taking necessary measures to guarantee the safety of its coasts and, consequently, its inhabitants.
The public work that seeks to protect the inhabitants of the coast
As a means of protection, the coastal wall is being built on the waterfront of the city of Formosa, which consists of a 330-meter-long reinforced concrete structure, which It will extend between the extensions of Fotheringham and Brandsen streets approximately and is in charge of the Provincial Road Directorate.
“This wall will protect this sector of the coast from the erosive action of the Paraguay River and also recover a sector on the river, giving this area a new physiognomy and aesthetics,” explained engineer Javier Caffa, administrator of the provincial body.
In relation to the details of the work, he explained that "the structure is made up of a deep foundation of 132 piles 24 meters deep and 1 meter in diameter." In the same way, 66 heads are arranged that link said piles to each other, so that "a large longitudinal bracing beam is subsequently built on which the reinforced concrete screen 6 meters high and 60 centimeters thick will be built, with reinforcement buttresses every 5 meters apart.”
The health milestone achieved thanks to the presence of the State
Currently, all the piles and caps have already been built, as well as the longitudinal beam, and the reinforced concrete wall is under construction for an extension of 70 meters.
«The progress of the work was affected by the flooding of the Paraguay River, which made concreting tasks difficult. As the wall gains height, the filling is carried out behind it, allowing the coastal slopes to be stabilized,” said the engineer.
Pilagá Bridge
The provincial official also referred to the degree of progress of the works carried out on the Pilagá stream bridge, in the Colonia El Quebranto area, on provincial route No. 16. In this sense, he specified that a visit was made and inspection of the renovation work and total conditioning of the wooden bridge.
This bridge has more than 30 meters and the Provincial Highway Directorate undertook the repair, due to its use and the years that deteriorated its condition, with "90% progress." “Probably in the month of January it will be finished and traffic will be enabled,” he anticipated.
