Work Detail | The business community of Southern Punjab urged upon the government to take measures for enhancing exports to Iran so that dreams of the Iranian president Hassan Rouhani could come true who wanted to increase the bilateral trade between Pakistan-Iran to $5 billion which stuck to only $830 million. President of Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) Fareed Mughis Sheikh said that Pakistan can export textile, leather products, rice and agro products, tents and canvas, surgical instruments, gems and jewellery to Iran for the purpose of enhancing bilateral trade. He said the present level of economic relations was not satisfactory and there was a dire need to increase it. He said, at present, the volume of trade is only $830 million, adding that with sharing capacity of both the countries, we can achieve higher figures. Pakistan could also export rice, mangoes and kinnos to Iran. He stressed the need for sending delegations particularly from south Punjab to Iran to introduce the local product. He said that blue pottery, "Kashigari' and handmade garments of South zone were very popular in Iran. He further said that Pakistan should honour Pak-Iran gas pipeline project as early as possible and it should remove all hurdles in this way. Fareed Sheikh said that in the past decade there were sanctions, but now sanctions were lifted and JCPOA has been signed. "Iran has achieved great success without bloodshed and war," Fareed added. |
