Toshiba has developed a prototype 1.5 Ah lithium-ion battery with a voltage greater than 3 V. The device retains its initial efficiency for more than 6,000 charge/discharge cycles and allows fast charging up to 80% of its capacity. capacity in just five minutes.
Toshiba has unveiled a prototype lithium-ion battery that is based on a low-nickel cobalt-free class 5V high-potential cathode material and a niobium titanium oxide (NTO) anode.
The Japanese electronics maker claims that the battery cathode can suppress gas generation resulting from electrolyte decomposition, which is a common problem with 5V class technologies when combined with high-conductivity electrolytes.
The 1.5 Ah battery can be used in power tools, electric vehicles and high voltage industrial applications.
“In tests, the battery demonstrates a high voltage of more than 3 V, fast charging up to 80% capacity in 5 minutes, high energy efficiency and excellent service life characteristics, even at a temperature of 60 ºC,” it states. Toshiba.
The battery can also retain its initial capacity for more than 6,000 charge and discharge cycles.
“The companys goal is to develop larger modules for vehicle applications,” Toshiba says. “Going forward, the company will continue to improve the technology towards commercialization in 2028.” |
