Work Detail As part of the collaborative Setu Bandhan scheme between the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and the Railways, plans are underway for the construction of a new rail overbridge in Margao. The proposed site, near Shree Damodar Vidyalaya High School and Higher Secondary School, Comba, is expected to cost Rs. 104.6 crore. Additionally, the State Public Works Department (PWD) is proposing the construction of a missing link in the ring road, connecting the power house junction to the Colva circle via Margao, at an estimated cost of Rs. 95.8 crore. Once completed, these projects aim to significantly alleviate vehicular congestion in Margao. Currently, when trains pass near Shree Damodar school, the level crossing at Comba is closed, rerouting traffic through a subway. The new rail overbridge is anticipated to replace the level crossing, improving safety and traffic flow. The Margao ring road, partially commissioned for traffic in 2018, faced delays and litigation due to opposition from locals. With the railway track doubling work in progress, the need for completing the road and overbridge projects has become imperative. The proposed developments align with the authorities intention to close the Comba level crossing. The State PWD has also put forth proposals for road improvements and widening across Goa under the Setu Bandhan scheme, totaling Rs. 350 crore. The Setu Bandhan initiative allocates funds collected from petrol, diesel, and excess cess to states for various road projects, contributing to infrastructure development and enhanced connectivity.
