Waikanae Water Treatment Plant Set for $22 Million Upgrade
Big news! There is an upgrade of over NZ$ 22m at the Waikanae Water Treatment Plant. The boss of the Kapiti Coast District Council, Darren Edwards, signed a contract for this major project in the region. This will be a two and a half year project, but definitely is great progress for this part of community.
Last year, we worked hard before tackling this big project. It necessitated the relocation of the storm water line, among other items, to pave way for more up to date technology. The prime consideration is installing a fast mix tank. Like a super-mixer, the gunk is little things of material that glue together and clean the water.
One of the main constituents of this upgrade is a state-of-the-art clarifier. The huge reservoir has purified water made of small particles that stick together. Furthermore, they are using other tanks for extra substances which help in water purification. Not only do they repair machines, they buy some new pumps and other devices for greater effectiveness.
Since the plant is fifty years old, they are building a new structure to keep it safe. The system will protect the chlorine tanks and dosing facilities. The changes improve the district’s main water source to meet modern needs.
Darren Edwards stated that it is imperative to have a safe source of water in the district. According to him, it being the second of a 3-part scheme for improving the Waikanae Water Treatment Plant. This consisted of two phases. Firstly, smart—river recharge groundwater scheme completed in September 2015.
Currently, their concentration is on something vital. To make sure big delivery vans can drive safely, they’re building an extra lane on Reikorangi Rd. Making things run smooth and safeguarding everybody is indeed a great idea.
Looking ahead to step three around 2028, there are big plans. They want to change UV units, fix sludge and wastewater systems, and make the sand filters better. They’re even adding two more sand filters to make things even better!
For all that to happen, the Council was awarded with a huge sum of money worth $5.2 million by the government Three Waters Reform Programme. It portrays the efforts of all in ensuring that houses and commercial are supplied with purified drinking water.
It’s important for the area that the Waikanae Water Treatment Plant exists. The water supplies over 41000 people with water in Waikanae, Paraparaumu, and Raumati. This is not about rule compliance this upgrade. This is a reinforcement process aimed at preparing the plant for the future. |
