National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) has achieved another milestone in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor project by successfully completing the construction of a 100 km viaduct.
The project achieved this milestone by launching 40-mtrs-long span box girders and segmental girders, and 250 km of pier work has also been completed. The installation of noise barriers has already begun on the constructed viaduct. Besides, the breakthrough of the first mountain tunnel of 350 mtrs. has been completed in Valsad, and the first steel bridge of 70 mtrs. has also been erected in Surat. This is the first of the 28 steel bridges which will be the part of MAHSR corridor.
The viaducts include bridges over six rivers: Par (Valsad), Purna (Navsari), Mindhola (Navsari), Ambika (Navsari), Auranga (Valsad) and Venganiya (Navsari), in Gujarat. The laying of the first reinforced concrete (RC) track bed for the MAHSR corridor track system, used in Japanese Shinkansen, has also started in Surat. This will be the first time when the J-slab ballastless track system is being used in India.
NHSRCL achieved its first significant milestone in October this year by successfully erecting the first steel bridge, spanning an impressive 70 mtrs. in length, across NH-53 in Surat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his then-Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe had launched the project in Ahmedabad on 14 September, 2017. |
