The "Construction of the third lane, expansion of bridges and readjustment of distributors on Av. Circunvalación de Córdoba" was awarded as the Urban Road Work of the year by the Argentine Highway Association, during the gala dinner that took place last night to celebrate the Camino Day 2023.
The distinction was received by the Minister of Public Works of the government of Córdoba, Ricardo Sosa and the president and vice president of Caminos de las Sierras, Jorge Alves and Isaac Rahmane.
The event was held at the Marriott Hotel in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires with the presence of the main representatives of the countrys road sector.
The work on the Córdoba Beltway was carried out by Caminos de las Sierras, the concessionaire company of the Access Network to the city of Córdoba, and was carried out between 2020 and 2023 and required a total investment of 110 million dollars, financed in part for the collection of the toll rate, and the rest with contributions made by the Government of the Province of Córdoba.
The works on the Ring Road
Once the closure of the ring was completed, which allowed the avenue to be completed after 50 years, the provincial government asked Caminos de las Sierras the need to ensure that the pre-existing 30 kilometers had the same capacity as the 17 new kilometers built. . To achieve this, a new lane was built with paved shoulders on both roads, which made it possible to achieve a highway profile with 3 lanes in each direction of travel along the entire length of the avenue. The work also required the widening of 26 bridges, the readjustment of pedestrian walkways, and hydraulic and safety works.
The Beltway had interchanges built more than 40 years ago and urban expansion and traffic growth generated numerous delays and inconveniences at these intersections. For this reason, the expansion of five distributors was defined. The works were carried out at the intersections of Circunvalación and Avenida Juan B. Justo; Rancagua Avenue; Capdevila Avenue; OHiggins Avenue and Valparaíso Avenue. The works carried out made it possible to improve connectivity between various sectors of the city, speed up the crossings on the Ring Road and provide traffic safety.
In addition, the construction of the transit interchange was carried out at different levels in Circunvalación and Avenida Armada Argentina, in the southern arc of the ring. The upper level has three viaducts to channel circulation and a roundabout on the lower level, with islands and connecting branches, which allows turning movements and access to the neighborhoods.
As a complementary work, and to facilitate the connectivity of the urbanizations and front properties, the paving of 15 km of collector streets of the Beltway was also carried out and the execution of hydraulic works that allowed the systematization of urban drainage.
All the work carried out on the Córdoba Beltway was accompanied by a lighting project with an LED system and afforestation.
Strategic planning was the most relevant point of the tasks that were carried out, since all the works were carried out without interruption of traffic on the Beltway, where 80 thousand vehicles circulate daily.
