Work is being done on various fronts, with soil collection, cleaning of canals and unclogging of urban drains in Santa Fe, San José del Rincón and Arroyo Leyes.
In response to the requests of the municipalities and communes of the Capital department, the province optimizes defense works.
The provincial government is carrying out works in different locations in the department of La Capital, to reduce the water risk, given the imminent arrival of a flood, a product of the current development of the “El Niño” phenomenon.
In this framework, the Secretary of Water Resources and head of the Preventive Emergency Committee for the El Niño Phenomenon 2023/24, Roberto Gioria, explained that “in response to the requests of the municipalities and communes of the Capital department, we are carrying out tasks maintenance, repair of defenses, unclogging and cleaning of urban channels and drains in different locations. These are complementary works, carried out by the administration, to the work that is being carried out through a contractor, to maintain the defenses of Greater Santa Fe.”
“In Arroyo Leyes, we are reshaping and altering the defense embankment of the Villa Juana neighborhood, with the objective of protecting about 120 families, as we also did in San José del Rincón at kilometer 10, reshaping a defense. In addition, we cleaned the slope to the south of the ASSA intake and cleaned the guard channel from the intake to the north,” the official added.
“In Santa Fe we are working on cleaning the Roca Canal, then we will continue with the Monseñor Rodríguez Canal and the Mercado Lateral Canal. The cleaning of those three canals is what the local municipality asked us to do and we are doing it with machinery from the province,” Gioria explained.
Likewise, the official indicated that maintenance and cleaning works are also planned in Alto Verde, Colastiné and in Santo Tomé; He clarified that each locality has developed and will carry out its contingency and evacuation plans when they consider it pertinent, since it is the responsibility of each municipality or commune; and recalled that the provincial government, through Civil Protection, will assist each jurisdiction based on their needs.

For its part, the Provincial Directorate of Roads, through its zonal headquarters, carries out tasks of cleaning and unclogging storm drains in different sections of the coastal corridor that extends through the departments of La Capital, Garay, San Javier and General Obligado, with the The objective is that the water from rainfall drains away without causing difficulties or flooding.
