This work will allow the construction of concrete frames to pipe the open-air canals. It will be located on land adjacent to the current plant that is already being conditioned.
The municipality of San Francisco will expand its concrete plant located in the southwest of the city to begin the production of concrete frames that will be used in the piping of drainage channels.
The municipal concrete plant was inaugurated on November 15, 2017. At that time, it had two silos that, together, had a production capacity of 60 cubic meters of concrete per day. Six years after that moment, the same plant increased its production capacity by 116%, since it produces 130 cubic meters of material per day for street paving works.
The increase in production capacity came hand in hand with the incorporation of a new silo, the construction of a scale to weigh trucks and the expansion of the water collection mechanism.
Mayor Damián Bernarte made the decision to continue with the expansion by diversifying the plants production spectrum. To this end, it was established that, starting in 2024, work will be carried out on the implementation of a new plant, located on land adjacent to the current one, with the aim of allowing the manufacture of concrete frames that are used to pipe storm drain channels. .
Among the canals that will be intervened for piping are those located on Primeros Colonizadores street, Urquiza avenue, Parque neighborhood, Avellaneda, etc.
“The idea is that this plant does not generate any type of waste. With the leftover concrete, blocks will be produced to improve public spaces,” said Gómez.
Details of the expansion
Weeks ago, the first tasks of conditioning and expanding the land where this new plant for the manufacture of concrete frames will be located began.
The 2024 Municipal Budget, which is currently being debated in the Deliberative Council, provides for an allocation of $218,712,617 to finance this expansion project that will begin to be executed in the first part of next year.
At this time, the property has an extension in the perimeter fabric, bordering what will be the surface of the new plant to be built. Along with this expansion, it is planned that three entrances will be enabled for the circulation of vehicles that will be able to communicate with the concrete plant or be maintained independently.
The Secretary of Infrastructure, Néstor Gómez, explained to LA VOZ DE SAN JUSTO the characteristics of this work that will allow the original project of the municipal concrete plant to be completed.
“The concrete plant project had two stages. The first intended to supply concrete to the different works we have underway in the city. For this we have expanded its capacity with the placement of a new silo, a scale and a whole new water storage system that led us to maintain over time a production that, for us, has been a record that later allowed it to be sustained constantly. ", said.
The new plant for the manufacture of precast concrete will be adjacent to the current one.
Based on the constant growth in the demand for concrete generated by the various street paving works in different neighborhoods, Gómez commented that “we have decided to continue working on other objectives such as the formation of a plant independent of the original, but neighboring the same, intended for the manufacture of precast concrete for the purposes of making the porticos for the piping of the citys storm drain channels."
For this particular work, the municipalitys technicians were analyzing the different existing alternatives for the production of these frames. In this case, the official pointed out that "the decision was made to manufacture the rectangular frames and that is what we are going to aim for with this plant that will be independent from the existing one since it will not only have its own machinery, but it will have its own building complex, warehouses , production machine and storage place.”
With the experience acquired over six years of running and managing a concrete plant, the authorities will begin the execution of this project “which will serve as a basis” for the production of these frames.
“The idea is that this plant does not generate any type of waste. This means that with the leftover concrete blocks will be produced that are then used as delimiters in the squares that will allow public spaces to be perfected with these elements,” he added.
Gómez also indicated that the execution work of this new plant “will begin in the first months of 2024” while it is expected that the first molds of porches “will be ready to be tested between the months of July and September” and, depending on of production in the latter part of next year "the first steps for the casing of the canals would begin to be carried out."
Later he was “totally convinced” that “when we start with regular production, we will see that in four years we will have made a lot of progress in the piping of the open-air canals and we can also see that in the last six years we have been able to pave the neighborhoods 20 de Junio, 9 de Septiembre, Independencia, Cottolengo, which is about to be completed and we are carrying out paving works in the Cispren and Bouchard neighborhoods; curb curb in the San Cayetano neighborhood completed and in the La Milka and Parque neighborhoods close to completion; “We have paved Libertador Avenue (N), University Avenue, Las Margaritas Street, Huergo Avenue in the Industrial Park and Antártida Argentina.”
"With all this we can only feel proud to see that when production is municipal and the work is done within the term of a government mandate, the progress is noticeable," he said.

With the production of concrete frames in this new expansion of the municipal concrete plant, the official highlighted that Bernarte “did nothing other than redouble the commitment to the community through the search for new challenges, knowing the potential that has this plant, having the experience of how to conduct ourselves in this aspect from the municipal administration.”
“Damián (Bernarte) always asks us to be with our ears wide open to listen to the needs of the neighbors and in this sense we must say that when we went to the neighborhoods the neighbors asked us about the canal piping.
