Omeat Cultivated Meat Pilot Plant completed, Los Angeles
Omeat, the unique cultivated meat firm that emerged from the shadows earlier this year, has hit a critical milestone with the completion of its cutting-edge pilot plant. As the firm moves closer to commercialization, this breakthrough represents a critical step towards a more sustainable and ethical future for meat production.
The 15,000-square-foot pilot facility is located just outside of Los Angeles, California. It is designed to hold bioreactors up to 10,000L in size and has a capacity of 400 tonnes of output per year. Additionally, Omeat’s unique vertically integrated strategy is reflected in the new plant
The launch of Omeat’s pilot facility represents a big step forward in bringing produced meat to customers. It meets the rising need for more sustainable protein sources. The factory will give critical data and insights for scaling up production. It will ensure Omeat fulfils the highest quality, flavour, and safety requirements. Furthermore, the completion of the pilot plant will allow Omeat to show the complexities of its method at scale. It will pave the way for regulatory assessment and clearance.
Comments on the Omeat Pilot Plant
“We now have an integrated, farm-to-table supply chain,” says Jim Miller, Chief Technology Officer of Omeat. Omeat’s method starts at our farm with plasma collection from Omeat’s herd of Holstein cows. Further, the plasma is transported to the new pilot plant and made into Plenty, Omeat’s low-cost, high-quality proprietary growth factor. It eliminates the need for Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS). Plenty and bovine cells are mixed within Omeat’s bioreactors to generate Omeat ground beef. Furthermore, it’s a game-changing method for producing clean, flavorful, and consistent meat.”
“Omeat’s pilot plant is a significant achievement for our company and the industry as a whole,” stated Omeat Founder & CEO Ali Khademhosseini, Ph.D. |
