Work Detail "Rajasthan-Based Firm Wins Rs. 364 Crore Bid to Construct Porvorims Six-Lane Elevated Highway in 2 Years" The state government has accepted a bid of Rs. 364 crore for the construction of a six-lane elevated highway in Porvorim, with a two-year completion deadline. The successful bidder for the project is Rajendra Singh Bhamboo Infra Private Limited, a company based in Rajasthan, according to PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral. Cabral announced that, "The successful bidder quoted 30% less than the limit set in the tender." The tender, which was issued in June, stipulated that the work, valued at Rs. 474.6 crore, must be finalized within two years. The PWD has already addressed most of the encroachments along NH-66 in preparation for the project. Sixteen companies qualified for financial bids for the project, and Cabral mentioned that there is a significant difference of Rs 171 crore between the lowest and highest bids. "The moment the selected company makes the security deposit and completes other formalities, the work order will be issued," said the minister. The project is funded by the Centre, which has sanctioned Rs 641.4 crore for the primary construction and its approaches. The construction may pose a traffic challenge in Porvorim, but officials from various government departments are actively seeking an alternative route to alleviate congestion. The elevated road is anticipated to span 5.2 km in length, with the approaches starting at the Sangolda junction on one end and the Neo-Majestic hotel on the other. As part of the highway improvement project from Patradevi to Bambolim in Goa, the Porvorim stretch remains to be widened. A land acquisition case for the six-lane elevated highway in Porvorim was pending before the Supreme Court, which hindered expansion efforts and contributed to traffic bottlenecks. The Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry raised these concerns with Cabral, highlighting the logistics sectors worries. The elevated highway project aims to alleviate traffic congestion along the NH-66 section leading to Panaji and enhance access to the Mopa airport. This elevated corridor is a component of the four/six-laning work on the Karaswada-Bambolim stretch, which, once completed, will enable vehicles to travel at speeds of 80-100 kmph, a significant improvement over the current 40-60 kmph limit.
