Work Detail |
The Government of Goa has approved the bid of Rs 364 crore for constructing the six-lane elevated highway at Porvorim in the next two years. The tender was floated in June 2023, and the work is worth Rs 474.6 crore.
The successful bidder of this project is Rajendra Singh Bhamboo Infra (RSBIPL). The Public Works Department (PWD) has cleared a significant number of the encroachments along NH-66 for the project. The project is expected to be completed in two years.
The project is being funded by the Centre, which has allocated Rs 641.4 crore for the main construction and approaches. The elevated road is expected to be 5.2-km-long, with approaches beginning at Sangolda junction on one end and the Neo-Majestic hotel on the other. The Porvorim stretch is yet to be extended as part of the Goa highway development project stretching from Patradevi to Bambolim.
The elevated highway project, when completed, is projected to alleviate traffic congestion on this portion of NH-66 going to Panaji, and enhance access to the MOPA airport.
Further, the elevated corridor is part of the work carried out on the Karaswada-Bambolim portion of the highway to make it four/six lanes. The project will allow vehicles to drive at 80-100 kmph as against the current 40-60 kmph. |
