This was announced by the executive president of Yacimientos de Litio Bolivianos (YLB), Karla Calderón. Meanwhile, two projects are being discussed in parliament regarding royalties for the exploitation of lithium.
The executive president of Yacimientos de Litio Bolivianos (YLB), Karla Calderón, has announced that the call for exploration in 28 minor salt flats and salt lagoons registered in the Bolivian territory that have lithium potential is being prepared.
Calderón declared that work is also being done to accelerate the industrialization of lithium in industrial plant projects with EDL (Direct Lithium Extraction) technology.
Regarding the plants, he reported that technical observations were found in the original design of the potassium chloride industrial plants, inaugurated in 2019, and lithium carbonate, which is in the testing stage, “which generates difficulties for production both fertilizers and lithium carbonate,” he assured.
“For example, the potassium chloride plant does not achieve the maximum projected production; In the design of the evaporation pools, production is intended for fertilizers, it was not taken into account for lithium production,” he said, adding: “In the case of the lithium carbonate plant we had to remake it from scratch, in addition "We began the construction of the treatment plant that will provide industrial water to function."
Calderón stated that the incidents are being corrected technically, under a short and long-term work schedule, in addition to a strategic plan that visualizes the sustainability of YLBs strategic company in the next 30 years.
Projects on royalties for the exploitation of lithium
On the other hand, the Government is in a process of discussing the royalties that the producing departments should receive for the exploitation of lithium.
In this sense, the Vice Minister of Exploration and Exploitation of Energy Resources, Raúl Mayta, indicated that the Government is willing to reach consensus on this issue.
However, Mayta noted that, although these demands may be legitimate, the lithium production sector “is in the birth and growth stage,” so “these regulations must be strengthened and promoted so that the different projects can be executed. ”.
There are currently two bills on this topic, one in the Senate and the other in the Chamber of Deputies. |
