Work Detail Iran has begun construction of a new nuclear power plant (NPP) in the west of the country called Karun, its capacity will be 300 MW of energy, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEI) Mohammad Eslami made such a statement on October 25. The construction work of the Karun nuclear power plant has begun, and contracts have been signed for the internal construction of infrastructure and the provision of equipment for the power plant. The capacity of the new NPP will be 300 MW of energy, the Tasnim agency quotes Eslami. Currently, Iran has only one nuclear power plant in Bushehr, which is being built with the assistance of the Russian side. The first unit of the nuclear power plant, completed with the participation of the Russian Federation, was connected to the national energy system of Iran in September 2011. The construction of the second one is underway and a contract has been signed for the construction of the third power unit. The construction of Block No. 2 officially began in the fall of 2019. At the end of 2021, in an interview with RIA Novosti, Vice President of Iran, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Mohammad Eslami said that the ground was being strengthened at the site of block No. 3 in preparation for the foundation concreting.
