Work Detail Gawar Construction has won the contract to construct the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL) elevated corridor that will be integrated with the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in Maharashtra, India. The INR10 billion (US$120.15 million) proposed elevated corridor, which links the expressway to the MTHL and includes an interchange at Chirle offers commuters a direct route from Worli in South Mumbai to Pune. This bypasses traffic congestion, potentially saving more than an hour in travel time. Moreover, it is expected to reduce travel time between Lonavala, Khandala, and Mumbai by 90 minutes, addressing the bottleneck issue caused by narrow lane connectivity in Navi Mumbai. This initiative aims to provide commuters with an uninterrupted and rapid 20-minute journey between these crucial locations, free from traffic signals. Additionally, the MTHL enhances connectivity to essential transportation routes such as the Mumbai-Goa highway, Navi Mumbai International Airport, and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) port. The MTHL project begins at Messant Road in Sewri, where it connects with the Eastern Freeway, and ends at Shivaji Nagar in Navi Mumbai. Spanning 22 km, the MTHL, also known as the Sewri Nhava Sheva Harbour Link, features a six-lane bridge, with 16.5 km over the sea and about 5.5 km of viaduct on land on either side.
