US$100 million Mercury practice facility unveiled, Phoenix
Mat Ishbia the new owner of Phoenix Suns and Mercury has revealed plans for a $100 million structure in Phoenix’s warehouse area in the south portion of downtown that would function as a WNBA team practice facility as well as the corporate headquarters for both clubs.
The Suns and Mercury basketball operations staff are now in the same building on 44th Street and Camelback Road, but the extension will give the Mercury their own space.
The ultimate relocation of the business operations employees to the new building will free up space in the arena for greater fan experiences.
Ishbia will fund the proposed 123,000-square-foot construction south of Footprint Centre.
The business employees will have around 65,000 square feet, while the Mercury will have 58,000 square feet for their own practise facility.
Features at the Mercury practice facility
The Mercury’s facility will contain two practice courts and ten baskets. Additionally, it will have its own training facilities, hot and cold pools and underwater treadmills, as well as a cinema area and family lounge.
The university’s campus, according to a news release, “will include indoor and outdoor basketball courts, an indoor arcade, a pickleball court and putting green, a workout facility and a showcase kitchen stocked with complimentary beverages and healthy snacks for team members, among other amenities.”
