Work Detail | Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute’s Adult, Corporate and Continuing Education Division has several courses scheduled to begin in the coming weeks. Through Continuing Education at CCC&TI, students can train for a new career, learn a new skill or hobby or take a course for fun. Following is information on a few of these upcoming offerings: Conversational Spanish – Caldwell Campus Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute’s Department of Continuing Education and Workforce Development will offer Conversational Spanish 1 on the Caldwell Campus in Hudson. The class will run from Sept. 6 to Nov. 22 and will be held on Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. Students in this class will learn real-world, relevant language skills. Emphasis is placed on learning useful phrases and vocabulary, which are practiced in small groups and through engaging exercises. Cost of the course is $71. Conversational French – Caldwell Campus Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute’s Department of Continuing Education and Workforce Development will offer Conversational French 1 on the Caldwell Campus in Hudson. The class will run from Sept. 12 to Nov. 28 and will be held on Mondays from 6 to 8 p.m. Students in this class will explore French culture through film, music, literature and language and will learn and practice basic conversation used in everyday settings and travel situations. Intro to Sign Language – Watauga Campus The Continuing Education and Workforce Development Division at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute will offer “Intro to Sign Language” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays from Sept. 13 to Nov. 29 on the Watauga Campus in Boone. Design Your Own Home Landscape – A Make & Take Class (Caldwell Campus) Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute’s Department of Continuing Education and Workforce Development will offer Design Your Own Home Landscape course from Oct. 24 to Nov. 14 on the Caldwell Campus in Hudson. The class will meet on Mondays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Students will learn to create a professional landscape for their home, discover the landscape plants that will work best for their location, and identify best practices for installation. Class will also help students discover how to use computer applications for Landscape Design. Cost of the course is $75. Old-Time Christmas – A Make & Take Class (Caldwell Campus) Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute’s Department of Continuing Education and Workforce Development will offer Old Time Christmas Horticulture course from Nov. 21 to Dec. 5 on the Caldwell Campus in Hudson. The class will meet on Mondays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Greenhouse. Students will make old-time Christmas items to take home, create natural Christmas decorations from plants, discover bulb forcing for colorful living decorations and make and take herbal gifts. Massage Therapy – Caldwell Campus The Corporate and Continuing Education Department at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute will offer an evening Massage Therapy class on the Caldwell Campus from Sept. 26 to May 16. The class meets Monday – Thursday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Cost is $181 for registration and tuition. Approximate overall cost including supplies and textbooks is $1,335. This course is designed to prepare the student for the certification examination required for the North Carolina licensure application process. Through class work and practical “hands-on” training, students obtain a solid foundation for professional practice as an entry-level Massage Therapist. Upon successful completion of the course, the student is eligible to sit for the certification exam and apply for state licensure in North Carolina. Upcoming free workshops: Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute’s Caldwell Small Business Center will offer a free workshop titled “Small Business Bootcamp” from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22 at the Caldwell County Chamber of Commerce in Lenoir and on Thursday, Sept. 29 on CCC&TI’s Watauga Campus in Boone. This course is geared towards those wanting to start their own business and is led by local entrepreneur and former Small Business Center Director David Waechter. The workshop covers the basics of getting your business off the ground and includes information on several topics including: How to name your business and why your business name is so important, registering your business with Secretary of State, how to obtain your LLC, Sole Proprietorship, or Incorporation, how to find the proper tax forms, how to obtain your tax ID or your EIN (Employer Identification Number) from the IRS, how to set up a business checking account and credit card, how to find what licenses and permits you need to get started, renting a space, easy and cost-effective marketing, sales and service and bookkeeping. Participants will learn the importance of market research and target marketing when developing a marketing plan and how Marketing Mix decisions can be made using the 5 P’s of Marketing.
