Dixon Technologies has invested Rs 200-250 crore in a new facility in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, to manufacture smartphones for Xiaomi India, and is also in talks with another smartphone brand. The companys wholly-owned unit will make smartphones and other products for Xiaomi India at its upcoming facility in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The facility, set to be inaugurated soon, is said to be among Dixon’s largest, with a capacity to produce 1.5-2 million devices a month. Initially, it will make 0.5 million units in a month, with ramp up planned as per volumes and deliverables. The contract manufacturers partnership with Xiaomi will allow it to assemble and make core components and export the smartphones, and leverage the latters expertise and leadership. the PCBAs (printed circuit board assemblies) for the handsets. Dixon will start with making one particular model for Xiaomi, but over a period of time, more models will be made. The government has urged Chinese brands to tie up with production linked incentive (PLI) scheme-approved local manufacturers for smartphones and components manufacturing. |
