Trafikverket, the Swedish Transport Administration, awarded Alstom a EUR 107 million frame agreement for the delivery of modular point machines designed to improve track stability for passenger comfort and reduce total cost of ownership by allowing automatic track maintenance on Swedish train lines.
“We are very pleased to be awarded this agreement with Trafikverket and with our proven experience in delivering high-quality point machines suitable for the Nordic conditions. We are confident that this will contribute to improved reliability,” Maria Signal Martebo, MD Alstom Sweden said.
Alstom will provide the point machines to Trafikverket for the next 15 years, with the option to extend the contract for up to 25 years. The start of possible call-offs from the agreement begins in October 2024.
Alstom will supply two types of modular in-tie point machines to Trafikverket, suitable for conventional and high-speed rail lines up to 300 km/h.
These electromechanical in-sleeper point machines have been designed to operate up to 1 million switches in various conditions and environments, eliminating clearance constraints for installation in tunnels, underground, and on viaducts.
Alstom provides an extensive line of point machines for wayside and yards, comprising state-of-the-art machines for urban, mainline and freight and mining operators. The portfolio encompasses traditional and in-tie, trailable and non-trailable point machines, both electro-mechanical and electro-hydraulic, all proven in use in light and heavy rail application, with different types of gauges, and compliant with all major railway standards. The solution for application in yards can furthermore be designed to operate on solar power.
The modular point machines from Alstom are certified and service-proven in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Italy with over 2,800 units installed.
Sweden is investing in its rail infrastructure to modernise and expand its network. In 2022, the government announced it will invest EUR 82.6 billion until 2027. The projects to be implemented will increase transport accessibility and capacity, and will contribute to an improved cohesion across the country and improved competitiveness. |
