Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has put into operation tunnel boring machine (TBM) DZ1040, named Siruvani, for works pertaining to the Chennai Metro Phase-II project.
L&T will deploy TBM Siruvani along with seven other TBMs to construct a network of 12 twin tunnels, totalling 24 km between the Kellys and Taramani Road Junction stations. The contract for Line-3 Package TU-02, valued at Rs 23.85 billion, has been awarded by Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL), with a 42-month completion timeline. The 6.65-mtrs. earth pressure balance (EPB) machine is the third of the eight TBMs scheduled to commence tunnelling activities under the Package.
Moreover, TBM Siruvani has completed rigorous factory acceptance tests in 2022, and will travel southward from Chetpet Station towards Sterling Road, initially covering a distance of approx. 705 mtrs.
L&T, as the project contractor, is entrusted with the construction of diaphragm walls and entry/exit structures at stations, including Chetpet Station, Royapettah Government Hospital Station, Thiruvanmiyur Station, and a section of the diaphragm wall at Greenways Road Station. This also includes launching and retrieval shafts at these respective stations.
In June, L&T initiated the lowering the components of TBM Siruvani into Chetpet Station. |
