Coal India (CIL) has committed a capital investment of about Rs 24,750 crore over the next few years, which will cover 61 first-mile connectivity (FMC) projects to enable eco-friendly coal transportation.
The project will be set up in three phases, will have a combined capacity of 763.5 million tpa on completion. As part of this, 35 FMC projects in the first phase with 414.5 million tonne capacity account for Rs 10,750 crore. Of these, eight projects are already operational.
The second and third phase will comprise nine and 17 projects corresponding to 57 million tonne and 292 million tonne, entailing investment of Rs 2,500 crore and Rs 11,500 crore respectively. Under the second phase, five projects of 21.5 million tonne capacity are under construction, and commissioning is expected by FY 2025. The remaining projects are in different stages of progress.
Phase-III projects are anticipated to be commissioned by FY29. The total eco-friendly coal evacuation would go up to 914.5 million tonne when all 61 projects become operational by FY 2029, including the earlier capacity of 151 million tonne per annum.
Additionally, CIL is gearing up to commission 17 more projects of 178 million tonne by the current financial year. |
