The Undersecretariat of Water Resources dependent on the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Services put out to tender the work: “Reconditioning and expansion of the Mercedes Sewage Treatment Plant” for the homonymous party whose official budget is $4,083,664,220.00 and A total of 4 offers were presented.
The treatment plant in the town of Mercedes is currently exceeded in its capacity while at the same time it has the forecast of reaching 95% coverage of sewage drains in the next 20 years
Therefore, the work to be carried out contemplates the expansion of the plants capacity through the construction of new structures and the optimization of some existing ones for a design horizon until 2040.
The development of the project has been prepared following the basic guidelines established by the National Water and Sanitation Works Entity (ENOHSa). The expansion works are being carried out on the site of the existing plant, which is approximately 5 km from the center of the city of Mercedes in a straight line.
The peak hourly flow for the design horizon, in the year 2041, reaches 1,778.4 m3/h, corresponding to 85,028 inhabitants. While the production of stabilized mud is estimated at 239 m3/day. The projected process continues to be the one currently carried out, this is conventional activated sludge with aerobic digestion of the surplus sludge, dehydration of the same and chlorination of the effluent using sodium hypochlorite.
The Provincial Director of Water and Sewage (DIPAC) indicated in this regard that “this is the new sewage liquid treatment plant for the town of Mercedes that will allow all of the citys effluents to be treated.
For his part, the Executive Director of ComiLu, Germán Ciucci, explained that "the work was financed by the Development Bank of Latin America and was possible thanks to the political decision of our governor, Axel Kicillof."
