Patna’s first double-decker flyover, originally set for completion in January, has been delayed until April 2025 due to land constraints caused by the Patna metro rail project, officials said. The Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited (BRPNNL) now expects construction to finish in March, with the flyover opening to traffic the following month. The 2.2-km flyover, being built on Ashok Rajpath, aims to ease congestion between Gandhi Maidan and NIT More. The three-tier structure will facilitate smoother traffic flow, while space beneath the flyover will be used for parking. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar laid the foundation stone for the ?442 crore project in December 2021. Officials report that 91% of civil work is complete, with the remaining tasks—including expansion joints, wearing coats, noise barriers, and service roads—expected to be finished soon. The flyover consists of two levels: a 1.5-km stretch linking Patna College to BN College and a 2.2-km stretch from Kargil Chowk to Science College. All 120 pillars have been completed, and slab work is progressing. Once completed, the flyover will provide direct access to JP Ganga Path and connect to a multi-storey parking facility at PMCH. Officials say the final phase of road repairs and parking development under the structure will follow after traffic is diverted onto the new levels. |
