Work Detail | More than 100 employees of the South Carolina food packaging firm Sopacko have been laid off work. The Morning News of Florence reported that 116 workers were laid off Friday. The firm packages foods in pouches and meal kits that can be stored for up to five years. The newspaper reported that South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce spokesman Bob Bouyea said the firm contacted the agency last week. Bouyea said the layoffs were permanent. The firm opened a facility in 2009. President Lonnie Thompson told the newspaper the firm had added a frozen food product line last year and had increased staff then to 280 employees. |
