Swedish contractor Skanska has completed work on the 72,000 sq ft Joan Perry Brock Centre at Virginia’s Longwood University.
The building is named after a local philanthropist and alumni of the university. It contains a 3,020-seat arena for Longwood’s basketball teams as well as spaces for academic and cultural events, for which an extra 1,000 seats can be arranged.
Located in the centre of Longwood University’s campus, the building’s design echoes the surrounding Jeffersonian architecture.
Walter Taylor Reveley, Longwood University’s president, said: “It is your energy that is going to catalyse this place. You are going to cherish it, I can promise you that.
“So many of you are seeing the inside for the very first time and you’re going to be really, really impressed. As Joan says, this is going to be the heartbeat of campus.”
Mark Balling, Skanska’s local vice president, added: “This achievement marks another milestone in Skanska’s longstanding partnership with Longwood University and reaffirms our commitment to excellence in construction and campus development.
“The naming of the lobby in Skanska’s honour serves as a testament to the trust and confidence placed in our team and we look forward to future collaborations to bring more innovative projects to light."
Skanska had previously delivered the university’s Upchurch University Centre. |
