The Minister of Agrarian Development of the province of Buenos Aires, Javier Rodríguez, supervised the progress of the waterproofing works of the Unifying Canal II in Villarino, within the 2023 Works Plan of the Colorado River Development Corporation (Corfo).
Rodríguez considered that these works in the Colorado River valley, which will require an investment of $35,964,580.17, are "fundamental, especially in contexts of drought, because they manage to avoid the loss due to infiltration that occurs in earth channels."
The official recalled that the works began in 2022 and, "for the first time they are carried out in an integral way, since they are waterproofing of complete sections and not only of the bases as was done before."
"Thanks to the political decision of Governor Axel Kicillof and the joint work with Corfo, we made progress in lining and waterproofing the canals in order to make more efficient use of water and a significant improvement in the irrigation system that supplies water to 63,727 hectares of the region”, he highlighted.
The Unificador II canal has a maximum capacity of 10,000 liters per second, supplies water to more than 15,400 hectares of irrigation concessions and includes coating and waterproofing work on a 2,000-meter section of the canal, allowing more efficient use of water resources. .
In April 2022, the waterproofing work on the main Matriz Buratovich channel began; and, with a disbursement of $10,308,210, in September of that year, the lining of 750 meters of the canal was completed.
Now, in 2023, work continues on a new 800-meter section of the canal that supplies water to 48,327 irrigated hectares, which is also close to completion.
After negotiations with international organizations, which began in the midst of the pandemic, it was possible for the work to be financed with a loan from the IBRD through the General Directorate of Sectoral and Special Programs and Projects (Diprose), in an agreement between the government of the province of Buenos Aires and the Ministry of Economy of the Nation, which foresees a total estimated budget of $1,835,519,577.68 and an execution period of 18 months.
The tasks to be carried out include the waterproofing of 3,400 meters of the Canal Unificador III in the town of Pedro Luro and 4,800 meters of the Villalonga Canal, in the town of the same name.
The work consists of the readjustment of the conduction section through cleaning works, the removal of obstructions, and the concrete coating of slopes and polyethylene of the foundation of said channels. |
