Work Detail Kwa Andu a Kiome Dam has been completed as planned by the Government of Kenya via the National Drought Management Authority, which carried out excavation works and set up a fence around the dam. They also built a water kiosk, farm animal troughs, sanitation centers, and conducted training, with a total value of Ksh 6.3M. The capacity of the dam The Kwa Andu a Kiome Dam capacity is predicted to be int he region of 15 million liters of water. Speaking during the launch on Wednesday, Cabinet Secretary for the East African Community, Arid and Semi Arid Lands, and Regional Development, Rebecca Miano, stated that the Kwa Andu a Kiome Dam will serve approximately two hundred households distributed throughout six villages in Kivue and Nguthi sub-locations, as well as nearly 4,000 livestock. The construction of the dam is among numerous interventions carried out by the National Drought Management Authority, a Kenyan institution aimed at building community resilience to drought and climate change in the county. The community, which used to walk around 7 kilometers to River Thura for water, donated the land on which the earth dam is located. The dam will provide water to several primary schools and one secondary school. In the preceding fiscal year, the National Drought Management Authority spent a total of Ksh 25.8M on numerous community projects in Mbeere North, Mbeere South, and Embu East. Kwa Andu a Kiome Dam Project Funders and Contributors The Kwa Andu a Kiome Dam project, a joint collaboration among the Government of Kenya authorities via the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA), The County Government of Embu, and the nearby community, had a total cost that surpassed Sh10 million. The Government of Kenya, via NDMA, contributed Sh 6.3 million for excavation works, construction of a fence at the site, building a water kiosk, and sanitation facilities, while the county government carried out the feasibility study, conducted technical surveys, designed, and supervised the project. The local people provided the land for the construction of the Kwa Andu a Kiome Dam.
