Scope : To Set up 1,320 MW Thermal Power Plant in Korba District, Chhattisgarh A mega thermal power plant with 1,320 MW capacity will be set up in the state. The coal-fired plant, which will come up in Korba district, will be the largest such facility of the state-run power generation company in Chhattisgarh and will be built using ultramodern technique. To meet the future demand of power, the chief minister gave instructions to establish the unit during the review meeting with officials of state power companies at his official residence here. Once the plant becomes operational, Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Ltds (CSPGCL) generation capacity would increase to 4,300 MW. The proposed plant, which will have two units of 660 MW each, will be based on super critical technology. It will not only ensure regular availability of electricity, but also create employment opportunities. The plant would be set up using state-of-the-art technology for which the land is available in Korba West. The work for getting necessary approvals, coal and water allocation along with a Detailed Project Report (DPR) would be completed at an accelerated pace so that rise in power demand by 2030-31 can be met through the new unit. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on 29 July, 2023 laid the foundation stone of two units of 660 MW super-critical thermal power plants worth Rs 12,915 crore in Korba district. The plant is targeted to produce electricity from one unit of 660 MW by 2029 and the second unit of 660 MW by the year 2030. The new plant will be set up on 71 hectares of vacant land in the old HTPS complex. The proposed new project will require 28 MCM of water and 6.5 million tpa of coal. Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company has obtained the necessary permissions and approvals. It is expected that the commissioning of the plant would be done in 2028. The newly established 1,320 MW super-critical thermal power station is slated to be the biggest and modern plant in the state, and make the state self-sufficient in power generation while also generating new employment opportunities for the local people.
