Work Detail Atlantic Health System’s Morristown Medical Center is making significant progress on its long-term expansion and modernization construction project for the Sameth Emergency Department, with an expected completion date in 2024. Presently, there is ongoing exterior construction focused on establishing ambulance entrance dedicated to pediatric patients at the Gagnon Children’s Emergency Department. Additionally, a separate pediatric exterior vestibule walk-in entry will be established on the Franklin Street side of the campus. The Morristown Medical Center expansion project also includes the construction of a new canopy and parking lot, as well as valet parking for Goryeb Children’s Hospital. This phase of construction is expected to be completed within approximately four months. Expressing contentment with the construction’s progress, Trish O’Keefe, Ph.D., RN, President of Morristown Medical Center and Senior Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive of Atlantic Health System, shared her positive sentiments. She emphasized the team’s dedication to bringing exceptional emergency care to adult and pediatric patients in the community. The project’s vision for the future of emergency medicine is becoming a reality, thanks to the unwavering support of team members, neighbors, and donors. Cost of Morristown Medical Center expansion project The cost of Morristown Medical Center expansion project is $26.9million. Interior construction work has also made significant progress, including the successful relocation of the Pediatric Day Hospital and Sleep Center, an outpatient unit specialized in procedures requiring sedation or special monitoring. During Phase 1 of the Morristown Medical Center expansion project, the Sameth Emergency Department was equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including advanced computed tomography (CT) scanners and new patient cardiac monitors. The trauma elevators were also expanded to better accommodate patient needs. When Morristown Medical Center expansion is complete, the new emergency department will have nearly 100 adult treatment rooms and areas, as well as a desk that will serve as the “control center.”‘ Moreover, the expansion allows for the relocation of the adult behavioral health unit. The new unit will be designed with a focus on patient comfort, featuring natural light, spacious layouts, and soothing colors.
