Work Detail Park Place, an affordable and supportive housing project, is now underway in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood, New York. Governor Kathy Hochul made the announcement at the groundbreaking of the $34 million development. HELPDevCo, a company affiliated with the nonprofit HELP USA, is the project’s developer. Governor Hochul said Park Place is the latest development in the state’s plan to provide affordable housing in Brooklyn’s neighborhoods. However, the new housing project is only part of New York’s larger Vital Brooklyn Initiative. According to the Governor, this initiative focuses on addressing chronic social, economic, and health disparities in Brooklyn’s underserved communities. Number of units at Park Place The new housing development will be situated on a parking lot at Park Place, between Classon and Franklin avenues. It will be a 5-story building consisting of 43 apartments for residents earning between 30 and 80% of the AMI. However, the developer will reserve eight of the apartments for locals experiencing homelessness, including on-site supportive services. Residents at the Park Place will have access to amenities such as free wifi, community rooms and bike storage. Additionally, the property provides laundry facilities and a landscaped terrace with play islands, to encourage outdoor leisure activities. It will also feature a 8,000-square-foot healthcare facility for One Brooklyn Health on its ground floor. This healthcare facility will offer primary care for adults and children, along with comprehensive dental care. Upon completion, the project will also provide 38 parking spaces on the property reserved for One Brooklyn Health employees. The Park Place building was designed to comply with Enterprise Green Communities standards. It also adheres to the State Energy Research and Development Authority’s (NYSERDA) New Construction – Housing Program in New York. Therefore the property will incorporate energy efficient features such as a low-flow plumbing system with leak monitors and Energy Star appliances. The project will utilize increased insulation throughout the building and a rooftop solar will generate the electricity on the property
