Work Detail | Drivers in the Smithtown area should be aware of construction starting on Route 111 this week. The work, which is scheduled to start Monday, will consist of repaving two miles of the route between Route 347 and Route 25A. Crews will be working between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and/or 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. During this time, at lease one northbound and southbound travel lane will be open. There will most likely be multiple lane closures at night. There may also be brief closures of all lanes in order to accommodate positioning of construction equipment. "To further minimize the impact of construction operations on motorists, residents and businesses, paving operations will be performed and substantially completed on shorter segments of NY Route 111 rather than disrupting the entire two mile project length," according to the State Department of Transportation. The work will to resurface the deteriorated part of Route 111 is part of the $7.8 million NYS Department of Transportation project to repair Long Island’s heavily traveled roadways and improve the safety of motorists. The work will consist of: Removing the top layer of the damaged pavement then replacing it with new asphalt Replacing traffic signal vehicle detector loops Installing fresh pavement markings Drainage cleaning |
