Firms working in the tunnelling sector have been give two extra weeks to put their projects and initiatives forward for NCE’s Tunnelling Awards.
The awards will be held in the evening at NCE’s Tunnelling Conference, which includes a daytime conference, on 7 December in London.
“Industry leaders in the tunnelling sector have told us that the sector is really busy,” said NCE editor Claire Smith. “This is great news for the sector in terms of activity but also means there is some great work underway that should be recognised at this year’s awards. I’m pleased that we are able to extend the deadline to 28 July to give project teams more time to submit their work and showcase their capabilities at the awards.
“We have 17 categories open for entry this year with new awards recognise both the leading contractor and consultant in the sector with the Tunnelling Contractor of the Year and Tunnelling Consultant of the Year awards. We have also added a Ground Investigation Project of the Year to recognise the early stages of work that go into tunnelling schemes and an Innovation in Tunnel Boring Machinery & Systems to highlight the new technology that is reducing risk and driving up productivity on projects.”
A panel of expert judges has been lined up to assess the entries and judges confirmed so far include EDF Hinkley Pooint C programme director Belen de Ugarte, Network Rail network technical head (mining and tunnels) David Castlo and HS2 deputy head of tunnelling Eddie Woods.
