Work Detail Construction has started ahead of schedule for the eight-story 730 Stanyan Street affordable housing building in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighbourhood. The new development is designed by the renowned Office for Metropolitan Architecture, or OMA. Additionally, includes 160 permanently affordable apartments, retail space, community space that serves the neighbourhood, and a childcare centre. According to the prior schedule, the building was expected to begin sometime in 2019 and end in 2026. Now, CCDC and TNDC anticipate inhabitants to arrive as soon as fall 2025. Dean Preston, who represents the area on the Board of Supervisors, said the following during the groundbreaking ceremony: “I am happy to break ground on 100% affordable housing at 730 Stanyan Street. The Haight community has welcomed this project with open arms, and I appreciate the collaboration with the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development, the Tenderloin Neighbourhood Development Corporation, and the Chinatown Community Development Centre to make it a reality. The San Francisco Housing Authority will provide funding for 32 through project-based vouchers. Furthermore, there will be a variety of apartment sizes. These 35 studios, 43 one bedrooms, 42 two bedrooms, and 40 three bedrooms. The 83-foot tall building will have a total floor area of about 193,740 square feet, of which 157,120 square feet will be used for housing, 3,750 square feet for a daycare centre, 5,090 square feet for public use, and 2,300 square feet for a cafe. A tech training facility, a TAYs centre, and a senior centre are among the public amenities. OMA collaborated with executive architect Y.A. Studio to create the design. With rounded corners, bright yellow window frames, setbacks on the fourth floor, and a carve-out plaza along Stanyan Street, the precast panel-clad exterior will fit the rectangular lot. The civil engineer is Urban Design Consulting, while the structural engineer is Mar Structural Design.
