Work Detail | US-based Cortec Corporation, a global leader in vapour phase corrosion inhibitors (VpCI) technology, has introduced new CorShield VpCI-146 reinforced paper, which can be used as a protective packaging for sharp or oddly shaped metals. Cortec’s latest VpCI paper will offer a different experience for both ferrous and non-ferrous metals, eliminating the need to stock a variety of papers for all the different types of metals and alloys that need protection, said a statement from the company. The new reinforced paper can be used in packaging metals or finished goods with pointed, oddly shaped, or sharp edges that would normally puncture non-reinforced papers, and it combines excellent tear strength with reliable corrosion protection through innovative VpCI Technology, it said. Among its other qualities, CorShield VpCI-146 Reinforced Paper includes: •Is non-toxic—contains no nitrites, phosphates, silicones, chromates, or other heavy metals. •Creates a protective layer that does not need to be removed prior to further surface finishing or coating application. •Provides a barrier to water, oil, and grease. •Comes in large widths for better wrapping of large objects. •Protects dry or oiled metals during storage, transit, and overseas shipment. •Is effective against aggressive environments including humidity, SO2, H2S, and galvanic corrosion from dissimilar metals. •Is commercially equivalent to military specification MIL-P-3420E. •Eliminates package contamination by using natural grade paper. •Combines corrosion protection and packaging into one step. The company has interacted with key industry players during its 30-plus years in the business of developing premium quality VpCI papers, and has revolutionised the way metals are protected in an enclosed package, said a statement. The large size of the new reinforced paper, is available in widths up to 2.5 m, is practical, efficient, and economical for wrapping around large pieces of equipment and raw metal goods, saving time and labour over standard-size corrosion inhibiting papers, it said. Parts protected with CorShield VpCI-146 can be painted, welded, and soldered. The protective layer does not influence physical properties of most sensitive electrical components, including conductivity and resistance, it added. |
