The Virar-Alibaug multimodal corridor (VAMMC) Project has officially awarded its construction contract to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). The Rs 60,000 crore project features a 126-kilometre-long route. Moreover, the road will include an eight-lane expressway. Additionally, it will connect to several crucial locations such as Uran, Ambernath, Bhiwandi, Vasai, Pen, and Panvel.
At an estimate, the road project will reduce travel times between Alibaug and Virar by 50%. Furthermore, between the areas of Goa and MMR, it will serve as a shortcut. Taking it a step further, official reports reveal that the VAMMC Project In India will be equipped with provisions for future Metro rail connectivity.
The VAMMC Project in India Targets Completion by 2030
In a nutshell, the road development project strives to offer significant traffic relief for both motorists and logistics companies. Furthermore, the project targets to improve overall connectivity. Quite impressively, it will include bypassing the congestion-prone Thane city area, which will serve as an alternative route.
Initially, the expressway was planned in 2011 by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). However, in September 2021, a deal got inked, handing over its construction to MSRDC. Its development will be undertaken in 2 phases. Phase 1 will be between Balavali and Navghar, spanning 96.41 kilometres. Meanwhile, Phase 2 will be right between Bavali and Alibaug, stretching 29.9 kilometres. As a whole, the expressway project aims for completion and operation by 2030.
The VAMMC Project In India will incorporate and include a wide array of essential elements such as roadside furniture, traffic control devices as well as extensive road safety measures. Moreover, it will feature comprehensive traffic and safety management systems that will include surveillance cameras. In addition to emergency telephones, toll plazas, and slope protections. Its toll management systems will be equipped with Electronic Toll Collection (ETC). |
