Decarbon Venture has launched what it claims to be the worlds first “swapable” solar generator, at half the weight and twice the power of other products on the market.
It was engineer Geoff Elwoods experience of being stranded in the Australian outback that inspired him to develop a new range of mobile solar generators, he says. With 7.2 kWh of storage and 6 kW of power, Decarbon Venture claims its products are the most powerful mobile generators on the market today, outperforming their gas-fired rivals.
“In addition, they are much lighter and cheaper to run than equivalent gas generators,” says Eldwood.
DCVs AirBase ecosystem includes 400W foldable solar panels that connect to a semi-solid state battery. The storage component is modular and comes in three variants:
AirBase Quad, with 7.2 kWh of storage and 42 kg of weight
AirBase Duo, with 3.6 kWh of storage and 22 kg of weight.
AirBase Power Module, with 1.8 kWh and 8 kg of weight.
The system is designed for car camping, boating, living off the grid, and potentially as home backup. This is a very popular market segment among Chinese manufacturers, with many products of this type exhibited at the Smart Energy Conference in May.
Decarbon Venture, however, stresses its readiness for Australia, a decidedly harsh natural environment. The company also claims that it is the first product of its kind that allows you to remove the batteries and replace them with new ones without turning it off.
“I wanted to build a durable solution that used modular power cells that could be swapped out as needed and scaled up or down,” Elwood explains.
Decarbon Ventures AirBase family of generators will initially be sold via a Kickstarter campaign in late August. |
