Its hotels in Spain had already met the milestone, and the hotel chain is now announcing that all electricity at Bahias Iberostar Praia do Forte complex is now from renewable sources.
The Spanish multinational Iberostar Hotels & Resorts announces that it has achieved a 100% renewable energy supply for its hotels in Bahia, Brazil. The complex, which has two hotels, Iberostar Selection Praia do Forte and Iberostar Bahía, and more than a thousand rooms, employs more than 2,000 people and receives approximately 181,000 guests per year, which requires energy consumption that reached 21,217 MWh in 2022.
According to the company, it is "the first Iberostar resort in America to achieve this progress towards decarbonization."
The Iberostar Praia do Forte complex has been using solar power for some resources since 2010 and now the property is taking another important step towards reducing the hotels carbon footprint. In addition to investing in renewable electricity, Iberostar has certified the origin of this energy through the i-REC (Renewable Energy Certificate). The companys commitment to be free of fossil fuels is underway and the plan stipulates that these fuels will be completely replaced by renewable energy.
In 2020, the Iberostar Group set itself, among other goals, to be waste-free by 2025 and carbon neutral by 2030 , 20 years before the industrys global goal. |
