The new £48 million hotel at Baltic Quarter on Gateshead Quayside is set to be constructed by Russell WBHO. The latter was appointed to carry out the project by the developer, Ask: PATRIZIA.
The planning application for the nine-storey hotel, covering 180,898 square feet and featuring 344 bedrooms, was approved by Gateshead Council in March. Russell WBHO plans to commence the two-year construction project before the end of the year.
The Hotel at Baltic Quarter, Gateshead Quayside is designed by AHR Architects. Upon completion, it will offer various amenities such as restaurants, bars, business meeting rooms, and a resident’s gym. Vine Hotels will manage the hotel. It will also operate under Accor’s Novotel and Ibis brands.
Hotel at Baltic Quarter Project’s team Commitment to Local Engagement and Social Value
Gareth Russell, Managing Director of Russell WBHO, expressed delight in securing the hotel construction project. He also emphasized the company’s expertise in the sector.
The team is actively engaged in collaborative partnerships with the client and local authorities in preparation for the project’s commencement later this year. Russell WBHO is committed to responsible sourcing, social value, and supporting the local community. This is by seeking local suppliers for labour and materials. The project will also provide training and apprenticeship opportunities for young people in the area.
The hotel development at Baltic Quarter has received support from the UK government’s Levelling Up funding, with Gateshead Council securing £20 million earlier this year. John Hughes, Managing Director of Ask Real Estate on behalf of the Ask:PATRIZIA partnership, expressed confidence in Russell WBHO’s track record in the leisure sector and expressed excitement about partnering with them to deliver a high-quality hotel that will be a valuable asset for the Quayside area.
The project is expected to contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of the vibrant Quayside region in Gateshead. |
