The technology addresses the problem of overheating, resulting in improved heating capacity and efficiency.
Japans Toshiba Carrier Corp, owned by US-based heating specialist Carrier, has won the 2023 Japan National Invention Award for its heat pump compressor design.
The technology is used in multi-cylinder rotary piston compressors in heat pumps. By optimizing the structure of the "exhaust port" that discharges compressed refrigerant to the outside of the cylinders, the problem of overheating is solved, allowing heating capacity to be increased, Toshiba-Carrier explained in a statement.
The design minimizes common problems with high capacity equipment such as discharge volume loss, pulsating discharge, and spindle distortion. The compressor also reportedly shows a lower noise level and higher efficiency.
“The invention is decisive in achieving high energy efficiency and low noise, while saving materials used with fewer compressors and simplified piping design,” said Tsutomu Masamoto, chief technology officer of Toshiba Carrier.
The Japan National Invention Prize was created in 1919 to promote scientific and technological innovations in Japan. Recognizes exceptional inventions, devices and designs that have generated or are expected to generate significant achievements. |
