Work Detail |
The updated designs for residential development at 330 W Chestnut have been authorized by the Chicago City Council. The project location is an empty lot next to the CTA L tracks, locatedat the north east corner of W. Chestnut St. and N. Orleans St. The developer is Draper and Kramer. The structure will rise nine floors above the ground, with FitzGerald in charge of the design. With a height of 126 feet and 128 premium apartments, it will have a mix of 64 convertible, 48 one-bed, and 16 two-bed units. 26 units will be reserved for the affordable requirement, including 13 convertibles, 10 one bedrooms, and 3 two bedrooms.
The shop space that was planned has been deleted as part of the renovation. There are now 13 parking spaces for vehicles instead of 11, and there are still 80 spots for bikes. The fitness centre has been moved to the bottom floor’s N. Orleans St frontage as part of the makeover. Further, this has also increased parking by two spaces and created an inside driveway. This eases car access by removing the need for multiple garage doors. Furthermore, the back-of-house areas have been increased to meet the needs of the building, and the bike parking spots have been moved from being in the same inner room as the cars.
More on the Draper and Kramer 330 W Chestnut residential development
To create greater interior space, a number of balconies on the front have been enclosed. There used to be two bays of balconies at the building’s southwest corner, but the western bay has been enclosed, leaving only one bay. The southernmost bay on the east facade was already enclosed, while the remaining bays were open balconies. The second bay from the south end has been enclosed as part of the remodelling to create a larger internal area there. |
