Work Detail Work could start by the end of this week on street resurfacing approved by the Quincy City Council last month, as aldermen authorized two more capital projects Monday night.

Aldermen approved the low bid of $364,071 from Diamond Construction Co. for the second part of the 2016 motor fuel tax funds asphalt program. The firm will resurface Lindell Avenue between Shirlen and 36th, and North 28th between Chestnut and Cherry.

R.L. Brink Corp. was awarded a $453,863 contract for capital budget road improvements in the 6th Ward. The project includes resurfacing two alleys and addressing water issues in the area of Van Buren, Jackson, South 19th and South 20th streets.

In July, aldermen approved an $832,494 contract with Diamond Construction for seven asphalt resurfacing projects throughout the city.

Jeffrey Conte, director of utilities and engineering, said the Illinois Department of Transportation returned the contract Monday after completing a review.

"I believe the contractor is planning on starting by the end of this week, and if not, by Monday of next week," Conte said.

He said there is plenty of time to finish the projects in the current construction season.

"I know it's starting later than we definitely wanted to, and we're going to do our best next year to make sure it doesn't happen again," he said.

Conte said the city had to address some sewer lines before some of the work could start.
