Work Detail The first phase of the Buxton Point Affordable Housing Project in Mombasa, Kenya, is reportedly almost complete. Particularly according to the project’s developer Buxton Point Apartments Limited the project is 90% complete. Led by led by Managing Director, Ahmed Badawy, the company explained that all the major works have been completed. These works include plumbing, electrical, plastering, and painting. Delivery of the first phase of the Buxton Point Affordable Housing Project in Mombasa The first of the Buxton Point Affordable Housing Project in Mombasa, Kenya, consists of 584 units. This phase will be delivered in three sub-phases namely Districts A, B, and C. The process of handing over the units to the homeowners has already started. In mid-April 2023, some 109 unit owners in District C which is the first to be delivered planted trees near their units. This activity reportedly marks the beginning of a new journey in their lives. The tree-planting exercise was graced by Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir. Launch of the second phase The second phase of the Buxton Point Affordable Housing Project in Mombasa is set to be launched in the coming weeks. Including a total of 1300 units, this phase is reportedly already on sale. A one-bedroom unit in Phase 2 will go for Sh2.9 million while a two-bedroom will go for Sh4.4 million. A three-bedroom unit on the other hand will be selling at Sh5.9 million. Overview of the Buxton Point Affordable Housing Project in Mombasa Buxton Point is an affordable housing project that is been developed at the 8.45 acres site that was initially occupied by the Buxton estate. The site sits on plots /XVII/625 and 985, Buxton area, and it is bounded by Sheikh Abdulla F., Narok, Koinange, Ronald Ngala, and Tom Mboya Roads. The project broke ground on May 2021. It involves the relocation of existing tenants, demolition of old housing structures, and construction of new housing units for outright sale to the general public under the affordable housing government scheme. 162 housing blocks will be put up to create a total of 1,860 units. Under the scheme, a one-bedroom house will be sold for Sh1.8 million, while a two-bedroom unit will go for Sh3 million. There will also be bedsitters going for less than a million shillings. Other than the housing units, the project involves the construction of 114 shops, 1 supermarket, a nursery school, multipurpose playfields, a multipurpose community center, a wastewater pre-treatment system- septic tanks, and internal access roads. Once fully complete, the project will accommodate a population of 2,056 at the least. The Buxton Point Housing Project is developed by Buxton Point Apartments Ltd and the Mombasa County Government under a Public-Private Partnership framework. Buxton Point Apartments Ltd is a locally registered company that was formed as a special purpose vehicle to deliver on the proposed project after Gulf Cap Africa won the bid for Buxton Estate redevelopment.
