Work Detail The Tonkin Gap Project in Perth, the capital of Western Australia, has achieved two significant milestones. Firstly, the 300 meters shared path that is right underneath the Redcliffe Bridge is officially open to the public. Secondly, the Broun Avenue Bridge which is currently under construction is almost complete. Quite impressively, the Tonkin Gap Project will serve as one of the region’s widest roads as well as a bus interchange bridge. In fact, it’ll be more than 60 meters wide and will accommodate well up to 12 bus stands. An Overview Of The Tonkin Gap Project The project is a part of the Tonkin Gap Alliance, Georgiou Group. In alliance with Main Roads Western Australia, BMD, WA Limestone as well as BG&E. Alongside GHD and the Public Transport Authority. The $400 million project strives to address the current bottleneck, where the highway reduces from three lanes into two in Redcliffe and Bayswater. As a result, it will largely improve safety and efficiency. Additionally, it will also reduce travel times. The project began in 2020 and aims to have complete development works in 2023. While commenting on the project, the Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, and Local Government said that the project’s progress serves as immense support. More especially towards efficient transport solutions for motorists that travel through Perth. Catherine King further said that the Tonkin Gap Project will drive an economic boost. Furthermore, the project will also boost short-term employment opportunities while delivering essential infrastructure. The brand new principal shared path serves as a connection for cyclists and pedestrians traveling from Bayswater on the northern side to Ascot, on the southern side. During morning peak, the project will potentially save commuters up to six minutes. Meanwhile, during afternoon hours, the project will save commuters well up to eleven minutes. The Western Australian Transport Minister also spoke about the project. Rita Saffioti said that regardless of certain complications, it continues to make great headway on what is generally a challenging program.
