Work Detail The KFC Ecuador Group has put into operation a 1.5 MW solar plant with which it estimates to supply 90% of the energy demand of 13 fast food outlets of the chain located in the metropolitan district of Quito, the Ecuadorian capital . The project, located on a one-hectare surface of the Maymor Farm, west of Quito, injects its electricity production into the grid of the Quito Electric Company. It is estimated that the plant, which consists of 2,700 photovoltaic panels of 550 W each, has required an investment of 2 million dollars. The installation of the panels, which was carried out by the company Solar Team, took four weeks, and its generation in the estimated useful life of 25 years is 2.3 GW/h per year, while the savings in CO2 generation has been set at 681,000 tons of CO2. As explained by the Manager of Management and Corporate Affairs of the KFC Ecuador Group, Javier Cruz Plata, he indicated that the fast food outlets of the chain will continue to consume energy from the national electricity network, with their meters connected to a substation of the photovoltaic plant to measure the consumption of each one. He also assured that the monthly amount of energy they consume will be returned with the plants solar generation. Authorities and representatives of the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries, and the Secretariat of Productive Development of Ecuador participated in the opening ceremony.
