PNN 39417
Work Detail They include industry and housing Iraq has awarded 13 projects worth $862 million in Basra within a post-war development plan for the Southern oil-rich city, an official was quoted on Thursday as saying. The Basra Investment Commission has awarded the projects as part of its 2023 development plan and some of them are large projects, the Commission’s Chairman Alaa Abdul Hussein said, quoted by the official news agency. Hussein said some of the projects have been launched and would be completed either in 2023 or in 2024, adding that a number of the projects cover non-oil industries. “Some projects are large and have yet to be started because we have not yet finalised the contracts with the investors,” he said. The projects cover the production of power cables, anti-fire systems, adhesive materials, as well as the construction of souq comprising 540 shops, warehouses and car parks, and a residential city that will include nearly 4,000 houses, he added.
