Work Detail UK-headquartered Balfour Beatty has started building the 6,500-sq-m Northern Virginia Science Center in Dulles, Virginia, for client the Science Museum of Virginia. The company said it would attract 300,000 visitors a year with galleries themed “Flow”, “Helios”, “Wonder”, “Human”, and “Habitat”. It will also have classrooms, multi-purpose rooms, administrative areas and exterior terraces. Completion is expected in late 2026. Balfour Beatty and architects HGA will devise sustainable elements like low-carbon materials and pollinator gardens. Balfour Beatty’s mid-Atlantic vice-president Art Malacarne said the team would build a facility that would “inspire a love of learning science, technology, engineering and mathematics that fuels the next generation workforce”. Previously in Virginia, Balfour Beatty built the National Museum of the Marine Corps, the Pentagon Memorial, and the Air Force Memorial.
