How is the project that will benefit the irrigation system of the Lower Valley
The agreement called "Modernization and improvements in the irrigation system of the Viedma Valley", agreed between the Nation and the Province, will allow the provision of water in a timely manner for the current and future production systems.
Conditions in the Lower Valley irrigation zone will be improved.

The signing was carried out last December between Governor Arabela Carreras, with the Minister of Economy of the Nation, Sergio Massa, within the framework of the comprehensive risk management program in the rural agro-industrial system (GIRSAR).
The benefited area will be 20,883 hectares and the benefited producers will be 467, of which 329 are family producers. The investment will be 3,510,607.78 dollars, of which 2,765,763 dollars will be invested by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (BIRF). An execution period of 18 months is estimated.
Its objectives are to contribute to sustainable development and the improvement of living conditions in the irrigated area of ??the Lower Valley of the Río Negro from the Mitigation of the impacts due to canal breaks and water stress and provide solutions to a set of problems that affect the sustainability of the productive system in the irrigated area.
To achieve this, it is proposed to optimize the irrigation system to allow the provision of water in a timely manner for current and future productive systems. In addition, it is intended to introduce improvements in cultivation techniques and strengthen the actors involved in order to give sustainability to future agricultural models.
Components
The project is made up of irrigation infrastructure, to substantially improve the management of the current network with the possibility of mitigating the effects of decreased flows.
For the same, refunctionalization works of the intake work are proposed; waterproofing of a critical section of the main channel: growth; implementation of telemetric points for flow measurement; institutional strengthening, which in turn includes activities related to the strengthening of the main government entities involved: Ministry of Production and Agroindustry, DPA and IDEVI.
The activities will be especially aimed at optimizing the management of water resources, inspection of works and environmental and social monitoring.
Likewise, these works will be accompanied by a Technical Assistance Plan aimed at improving the efficiency of intra-farm irrigation in accordance with the Together for Water Program carried out by the Ministry.
It is noteworthy the importance that the provincial government has given through the Productive Financing Unit (UFINPRO) to investments for irrigation works. In El Bolsón, work is being carried out to improve the irrigation system of Mallin Ahogado, which is added to the optimization of the irrigation system of Valcheta and the works carried out in the irrigation system of the Valle de Río Chico.
Likewise, Production, together with the DPA, continues projecting other financing to have greater availability of the water resource and better use of it, that is, more production and better yields for the productive activities of the province.
