KSP charges Barren man with child sexual exploitation offenses

By the Kentucky Press News Service

GLASGOW -- The Kentucky State Police Electronic Crime Branch, assisted by KSP Post 3-Bowling Green, arrested Mark F. Berry, 54, Thursday evening on charges related to possession and distribution of matter portraying a sex performance by a minor.

Berry was arrested as the result of an undercover Internet Crimes Against Children investigation. The KSP Electronic Crime Branch began the investigation after discovering the suspect sharing images of child sexual exploitation online. Berry distributed images of sexual acts involving children, a KSP news release said.

The investigation resulted in the execution of a search warrant at Berry's residence in Glasgow on Aug. 25. Equipment was seized and is pending a forensic examination.

Berry is currently charged with 20 counts of possession and 10 counts of distribution of matter portraying a sex performance by a minor. Each charge is a Class-D felony punishable by one to five years in prison. Additional charges are expected.

Eggners Ferry willopen to 4-lane traffic Wednesday

By Rebecca Walter

Kentucky New Era

AURORA -- The Eggners Ferry Bridge should be ready to open up to all four lanes of traffic by 1 p.m. Wednesday. Beforehand, the public is invited to walk along the unopened eastbound lanes of the new bridge from 8 a.m. until noon.

A brief ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at noon on the center of the bridge. The deck will then be cleared of pedestrians and the bridge opened to 4-lane traffic around 1 p.m., according to a news release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

KYTC District 1 spokesperson Keith Todd says the event will be similar to the one held when the old Eggners Ferry Bridge reopened after being struck by the Cargo Ship Delta Mariner in 2012.

"We're asking everyone to park at the Fenton Access Area in LBL, then walk along the shoulder to access the bridge deck. Be sure to wear your walking shoes to get a close up look at the new bridge," Todd said in the release.

Trail connections, which include bike and walking paths on the bridge, are still under construction. A separate opening event for the trail will take place once the project is fully completed in about six to eight weeks.

The first two lanes of the new structure over Kentucky Lake opened to traffic back in April. Back in July, the main trusses of the old bridge were demolished by explosives, and drew a crowd of thousands. The old bridge opened up to traffic in 1932.

Johnson Brothers Construction, a Southland Company, is the prime contractor on the $133 million project, which included the building of the new bridge, and the demolition of the old one.

Area law enforcement agencies, Land Between The Lakes, Kenlake State Park, Trigg County Rescue and Marshall County Rescue will be assisting with Wednesday's event.

The new Eggers Ferry Bridge is a 1,600 foot long basket handle arch design.

The new Lake Barkley Bridge is still under construction at Canton, and will be of the same design. That bridge is expected to be complete fall of 2017.
