Intervention on the traffic regulatory system is intended to make circulation times more efficient and safe coexistence on public roads, generating routes with a "green wave" and intermittent on demand.
In the integrity of the tasks, the economic amount exceeds $1,690 million: the largest investment in the traffic light network in the last 25 years.
The tender resulted in three bidders, which will be evaluated and selected for suitability to execute the works: Mantelectric ICISA, Autotrol SA, and Kapsch Trafficcom Transportation Argentina SA
Among the interventions to be carried out by the Urban Mobility Secretariat, the installation of 452 traffic light controllers in the centralized network is planned, which will replace the old copper and GPRS connection system with a 3G and 4G one, accelerating and giving better continuity to communication with the Traffic Light and Traffic Control Center without cuts.
“The network had its last big investment in the time of Martí, 25 years ago. That technology is what our traffic lights currently have: totally obsolete. From the administration headed by Mayor Martín Llaryora we have decided to update it, to have a quality traffic light network and one of the most modern in the region”, highlighted the Secretary of Government, Miguel Siciliano.
"The investment will allow us not only to circulate with a green wave, but also the famous safe corridors and sanitary corridors, to be able to enable them with different frequencies and control the entire traffic light network from an operational center," added the municipal official.
70% of the traffic light intersections in the centralized area to be intervened communicate with the Traffic Light and Traffic Control Center through copper wiring. Under this old analog system, in the event of changes, unforeseen events or power outages, the crossing had to be calibrated manually. The works will allow the remote management of the system from the Traffic Light and Control Center, optimizing the flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the centralized area.
At the same time, the Central will have a new intelligent system adapted to controller standards, enhancing its scope and functions.
"We are going to make the process more efficient, relying on contemporary technology to benefit all Cordovans," were the words of the Undersecretary for Urban Connectivity and Road Safety, Justo Casado.
In addition, he added that the city has 452 centralized crossings in the micro and macro center, which will be intervened this time, and 455 non-centralized ones located in neighborhood areas. The substitution of controllers with GPRS technology will allow, in turn, transferring the elements that are still operable to the neighborhood traffic light network.
It is established that the new system together with the controllers of each crossing will be executed within a year, having a preventive and corrective maintenance service guarantee for a total of 48 months.
In turn, the tender includes the placement of 400 new traffic light equipment in the central area: 100 for people with visual disabilities with acoustic signals, 150 in bus-only lanes and 150 in bike lanes.
