They will call for tenders to repair the Paso de los Libres international bridge
They will call for tenders for the integral repair of the Agustín P. Justo – Getulio Vargas bridge that connects Paso de los Libres with Uruguayana (Brazil). After the complaint of transport businessmen for the poor state of the routes, official sources confirmed that they are working on the specifications for the spare parts of the section dependent on National Roads.
This weekend, a statement from the Libreña Chamber of Transport and Related Businessmen (Ca.Libre) came out detailing the state of the international bridge and requesting national officials to intervene. It should be noted that in recent months, social network users have shared videos where wells can be seen on the viaducts asphalt tape.
Now, they confirmed that they are working on the repair of the indicated section.
“From the drain, that is, from where the river begins and up to the middle of the bridge, the maintenance corresponds to National Roads. As Daniel Flores (head of District 10 of National Roads in Corrientes) confirmed to me, the entity has already called for bids twice for the repair of the bridge and there were no bidders in those two bidding processes,” Alberto Yardín, coordinator of the Cargo Terminal Complex (Cotecar).
"Now the specifications are being put together for a new bidding process for the comprehensive repair of the bridge in what corresponds to National Roads," confirmed the official.
“We discussed it with Daniel and he pointed out to me that what made the bidding process more expensive is the distance between the asphalt plants and Paso de los Libres. I told him that Uruguayana has a plant and the tax extension could be carried out and this material could be brought from Brazil to try to lower costs”, he mentioned.
Yardín explained that the entire area is divided and maintenance corresponds to different areas. “From the intersection of Route 14 to 117, it is part of what is the
Corridor 18. The maintenance corresponds to Caminos del Río Uruguay”, he explained. That area was also pointed out by Ca.Libre as a necessary space for repair.
“In what has to do with what corresponds to Caminos del Río Uruguay, three months ago I filed a complaint with the regulatory entity that is the control body. Not only because of the state of that part of the bridge, but also because of how Route 117 accesses Paso de los Libres. The truth is that it is a disaster, ”he explained. "As a consequence, the regulatory entity told me that they were going to take action on the matter and they ordered the company to proceed with the repair of the routes," he added.
Last June, the National Directorate of Roads sanctioned Caminos del Río Uruguay for infractions of the contract, with which it accumulated sanctions for more than $183 million.

In the statement released by Ca.Libre, the reparations are imperative. “They generate imminent danger among passers-by, vehicles, buses and trucks. The physical capacity of the road corridor is overwhelmed and in poor condition, both in terms of lighting, signaling and not to mention the shameful state of the asphalt tape,” they wrote.
“We urge whoever is concerned, either National Roads or through its entity responsible for Road Corridors to finish the only 3,500 m of highway on National Route 117 to the Border Center, and the embankment at the head of the international bridge, as well as a definitive repair, as appropriate, of half of the international bridge, since up to now and for several years we have been seeing useless and poorly made spare parts, which incredibly do not last more than a couple of days”, they requested.
Later, the president of the Chamber, Delia Flores, thanked Gustavo Arrieta, executive director of National Roads, on her social networks. "He promised me to get information from the regional manager (located in the city of Corrientes) and to contact me again next week," she said.
Border Center
Other works are being carried out at the Paso de los Libres Border Center that they estimate will be completed in six months. “The works continue to be executed. There is an investment of more than 170 million pesos that has to do with the construction of new entry and exit lanes for vehicles, buses and trucks. This work has a term of a year and a half and we estimate that it will be finished in 6 months”, said Yardín.
In addition, the lighting of the area will be improved and new immigration control booths, a health support sector, new offices and a waiting room are planned. The coordinator also commented: "The Cotecar Cold Chamber was also repaired so that it begins to work and be able to deposit the merchandise that enters." |
